Sri Lanka
Marco Polo, who made his way to Ceylon Island in former times, described it as "the most magnificent place in the world". Sri Lanka is a natural paradise, one of the most beautiful islands on earth.
With its covering of lush green trees, lengths of white coastline, and flowers which, throughout the seasons, seem to vie with each other to be the most colourful, the entire island seems to sparkle like one gigantic jewellery box.
Furthermore, this is the land to which the original form of Buddhism, the Theravada, was transmitted, after its followers parted company with the Mahayana reformers. The lineage of Buddhism has died out in its birthplace, India, but in Sri Lanka it has survived down to the present day, in the original form that was transmitted during the third century BCE.
